A Telegram Signal Group, $31,500, and What We Recovered

Sipho, a delivery driver in Cape Town, joined a free Telegram “signal group” that funnelled members toward one specific platform to “act on the calls fast.” Early small wins were posted constantly to build momentum.

Where it went wrong

A coordinated “big call” had members buying in while the organisers sold. The platform then stalled withdrawals as the position collapsed. The group’s endless profit screenshots were the bait; nobody ever posted a successful withdrawal.

What we did

  • Captured the group’s call timeline and Sipho’s matching deposits.
  • Traced deposits from the platform to two cash-out wallets.
  • Engaged the receiving exchange with the coordinated-pump evidence.
  • Filed card disputes for the portion funded by card.

The outcome

The card-funded share was largely recovered; the crypto sent directly was partially traced and frozen — 61% back in total. The biggest red flag, in hindsight, was a free group pushing one specific broker and showing only wins, never withdrawals.
