How it started

After losing money to a trading platform, Eleanor was contacted by a “recovery agent” who guaranteed she could get it all back, for an upfront fee.

Where it went wrong

The “agent” was 7solutions: a second scam targeting an existing victim. She paid the fee and lost more before she found us.

“They knew exactly what I’d lost. That’s how they knew exactly what to say.”

What we did

  1. Stabilised the situation and stopped any further payments immediately.
  2. Traced the upfront-fee payments to 7solutions’ wallets.
  3. Pursued the recoverable fee portion through disputes and exchange notices.
  4. Documented both frauds for law enforcement as a linked case.
39% recovered

A modest recovery of the most recent fee payments. The lesson mattered as much as the money: no legitimate firm guarantees recovery for an upfront fee.

Red flags, in hindsight

  • Anyone who guarantees a full recovery.
  • An upfront fee to “release” or “recover” funds.
  • A caller who already knows what you lost.
